THE MUSEUM OF SACRED ART

Although the museum comes from the Greek word "museum" means the place of the nine Muses, deities who inspired the artists, and that the source of collectibles can also place it in antiquity, the genesis of the museum as a place that houses a collection of objects and shows it for educational or aesthetic delight is an idea created by the European Enlightenment of the eighteenth century.

After these beginnings as an elitist institution that was intended for the enjoyment of the dominant classes, the Museum has undergone in the twentieth century a process of opening in what has been called "democratization of culture". For the new museum is now the public-and not only the collection-the raison d'etre of the museum institution.

Museums today are centers that conserve, restore, investigate and value the cultural heritage of a people for the benefit of society. A museum should support education by disseminating all the knowledge to recover the collective memory. It should strengthen all social ties that generate awareness among people about the uniqueness of our own history and entrench the idea that national unity is possible only in the respect for difference of each of the cultural proposals without distinction.

The Museum of Sacred Art is located in the main house Villa Lina works in the Collection of the Foundation Nicolas Dario Latourrette Bo. Possibly complemented with some works belonging to the private collection of the same patron as a loan or as temporary exhibitions of a thematic nature.

The Permanent Collection of Sacred Art is comprised of nearly one hundred Paraguayan religious images of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries of priceless art and history and which, judging by the expression of the foreign specialists who have studied it, is worthy of included in major museums around the world.

The sculptures above, perfectly classified and cataloged, will enable a comprehensive reading the different topics of Paraguayan sacred art and its evolution from imported European Baroque by Jesuits and Franciscans, to the appropriation of these concepts reinterpreted by native artists and gave the most original result of our melting pot mestizo baroque Hispanic-Guaraní.

With the launch of the Sacred Art Museum, the Foundation Nicolas Dario Latourrette Bo wants to offer Paraguayan society and the entire international community an ideal site for the contemplation of these extraordinary works. A place where aesthetic contemplation gives rise to a more accurate assessment of our cultural heritage. A museum that shows the creative capabilities of Paraguayans to respond to their environment and social. And finally a museum that is active and creative transmitter of the values of our culture throughout the world.
