MONEDAS DE LA OCUPACIÓN

Durante la ocupación del Departamento Occidental - actual Villa Hayes - por el ejército Argentino, tras la Guerra de la Triple Alianza; monedas de CUATRO y DOS CÉNTIMOS paraguayas, del año 1870, fueron reselladas con el escudo argentino de un lado y del otro con las letras D.O. (Departamento Occidental).

De fuentes fidedignas se concluye, que dichas monedas circularon durante el Gobierno presidido por el Sr. Juan Bautista Gill (1874-1877). Estas tuvieron curso corriente entre las tropas argentinas, en el Paraguay.

PRO VISOR Y COINS

During the occupation of the Occidental Department (nowadays called Villa Hayes) by the Argentinean army after the War of the Triple Alliance; coins of  TWO and FOUR CÉNTIMOS of the year 1870 were countermarked with the Argentinean shield on one side and the letters D.O. (Departamento Occidental) on the other.

From reliable sources it has been concluded that these coins circulated during the government presided by Sr. Juan Bautista Gill (1874-1877). They were of legal tender among the Argentinean troops in Paraguay.
