LA PRIMERA MONEDA DE ORO PARAGUAYA
RESEÑA HISTÓRICA
Durante la guerra de la Triple Alianza (1864-1870), en la cual el Paraguay se enfrentó a Brasil, Argentina y Uruguay, las damas de Asunción, reunidas en Asamblea, el 24 de febrero de 1867, decidieron entregar "sus joyas y alhajas para aumentar los elementos para la defensa nacional". El Presidente de la República, Francisco Solano López, aceptó la ofrenda y ordenó que una vigésima parte de la misma fuese utilizada para la acuñación de la primera moneda de oro paraguaya, según Decreto del 11 de setiembre de 1867.
Se realizaron dos cuños, uno de BOUVET y otro del norteamericano LEONARD CHARLES, utilizándose sólo el de BOUVET.

During the War of the Triple Alliance (1864-1870) in which Paraguay faced Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, the ladies of Asuncion gathered in an assembly on February 24, 1867, and decided to "give up their jewels" in order to help the national defense. The President of the Republic, Francisco Solano Lopez accepted the offering and ordered one twentieth of it to be used to mint the first Paraguayan gold coinage, according to the Decree of the 11th of September, 1867.
Two dies were made, one by Bouvet, and another by an American, Leonard Charles, while only the die made by Bouvet was eventually used.
