"SILVIO PETTIROSSI, was born the 16 of June of 1887 in the city of Asunción and moved to the City of Buenos Aires, where he made contact with Jorge Newbery with whom he learned to fly. Awarded a scholarship by the Paraguayan Government was sent to France in 1912, where the International obtained his pilot's license from the International Aeronautical Federation. Once he had it, he made a series of important flights for his time, for example he made an endurance flight of 8 hours, and also was famous for his extraordinary acrobatic flights, as much in Europe as in South America.
In December of 1914, the Flying club of Paraguay was founded, he being named the president.
On October 17, 1916, while doing an inverted loop, the left wing of the plane failed, causing him to crash and killing him instantly."

DON EDUARDO SHAERER President of the Republic of Paraguay and other high official civil employees received in such opportunity the baptism of the air. These facts woke up in the town the interest by the avición. Paraguay participated in the universal effort by aviation with the acrobatic flights of one of his more illustrious sons SILVIO PETTIROSSI, whom in 1913 its heading of pilot received in France. From then it made acrobatics in diverse parts of America and Europe, very commented by the press of that time. In 1914 it made for the first time his aerobatics in Asuncio'n. This increased the enthusiasm of the Paraguayan town by aviation and caused that the bases lay down to make specific the creation of the National Aviation school.
The Aerial Paraguayan Club was founded in 1915 its first president being Silvio Pettirossi. This organization was created to secundar the action of the State and at the same time to stimulate the initiatives deprived in favor of aviation like indispensable element in the life of the nations. This Aerial Club made great contribution to Paraguayan civil aviation.
Silvio Pettirossi died in 1916 in a plane crash in Buenos Aires and was one of the few Paraguayans who received honors and tributes to their memory as one of the precursors of Latin American civil aviation. SILVIO PETTIROSSI: Hijo del italiano Antimo Pettirossi y de la paraguaya Rufina Pereira, nació en la Asunción en 1887. Con 17 años de edad, participó como voluntario de la revolución de 1904; a su término, viajó por sus propios medios a Buenos Aires; sus padres gozaban de una acomodada posición. En la capital porteña hizo relación con gente de influyente posición y prestigio. Fue decisiva para su carrera su amistad con Jorge Newbery, insigne creador y propulsor de la aviación argentina; con él hizo su bautismo del aire, y pronto dominó los fundamentos científicos del vuelo.
Pettirossi regresó al país y obtuvo una beca para realizar un curso de pilotaje en Francia y fue admitido en la Escuela de Aviación de la fábrica Duperdussin de Reims. En febrero de 1913, Pettirossi completaba el curso en tiempo récord, haciendo gala de asombrosa seguridad y precisión en el manejo de la máquina. Había ganado ya su brevet de piloto, y enseguida solicitó la fiscalización técnica oficial para la prueba de acrobacia aérea conocida como looping the loop, el giro en vuelo vertical, cuya marca entonces era de 14 inversiones. Pettirossi superó en más del doble, y a partir de entonces, al piloto paraguayo alcanzó una indisputable posición de celebridad.
Regresó al Río de la Plata en julio de 1914, con su flamante Duperdussin, previa estancia en Río de Janeiro en donde asombró a la prensa y los espectadores con sus arriesgadas pruebas. Pronto fueron los espacios aéreos de Buenos Aires, Montevideo y Santiago de Chile escenarios de las asombrosas demostraciones de pericia y temeridad del ya célebre piloto paraguayo. En Montevideo contrajo matrimonio con la dama uruguaya Sara Usher. En 1915, Pettirossi concurrió con su máquina a la exhibición aeronáutica y Feria Internacional de San Francisco, EE. UU. de América. Una vez más, sus pruebas acrobáticas causaron sensación y su nombre ganó todos los adjetivos. Su regreso jalonó de triunfos su paso por diversas capitales americanas, hasta Buenos Aires, en donde habría de completar su ciclo el audaz y eximio piloto paraguayo.
El día 17 de octubre de 1916 mientras realizaba vuelos de prueba, su máquina recientemente sometida a reparaciones, se precipitó a tierra en Punta Lara, La Plata, causando la muerte instantánea de su piloto. La muerte de Pettirossi causó honda consternación; sus restos fueron repatriados de inmediato para ser inhumados en su Patria, cuyo nombre había enaltecido con su valor y su pericia sin límites. En Buenos Aires recibió un impresionante homenaje de todos los sectores, incluido el Ejército, a lo que se sumó el Ejército uruguayo. Durante todo el trayecto fluvial entre Buenos Aires y Asunción, la nave que transportaba el féretro recibió en cada ciudad sentidos homenajes.
